First off, this is entirely un-Expo related but I'm totally in love with my neighbor's Siamese cat, and the feeling is mutual. I came home tonight and he was sitting on our porch and totally freaked out when he saw me. He was running around, purring and meowing and rubbing against me, so I spent 20 minutes just sitting out there petting him. He took to sitting in my lap (thus driving my own cat insane with envy through the screendoor) and gazing up at me, before rubbing his head against my chin. I love this cat and kinda wanna steal him. He's super skinny though, so I left some food out for him before I went inside (which required some fast footwork because he kept trying to get inside with me!). I don't even know what his name is, so I'm in the process of coming up with my own name for him. Any suggestions?
Anyway, on with basic Expo rundown: The doors officially opened at 4 pm, but since we'd gotten advanced tickets we got in around 2 to get a feel for the place and scope out what all the merchants had for sale. I'm SO LUCKY that I need to save all my money for tuition because otherwise I would have dropped $100 easily on stuff that I don't even need in there. I suddenly feel like it's my duty to scope out all the Spock merchandise so I can make a mental list of the things I can one day expect to see ZQ's face on someday. All I'm gonna say is that I hope Nimoy knows how many people eat off of his face and drink out of the top of his head. ...well on second thought, maybe I don't.
There was this one DVD seller who had three copies of Heroes Season 1 on display, and they were sealed with a "Watch this on Global!" sticker so I know that they were the real deal. I was gonna ask him if he was actually selling them or just cruelly showing them off to make the wait til Tuesday even more agonizing, but haven't had the time. Maybe tomorrow...
While I didn't get a chance to really meet any of the guests today (with the notable exception of Brad Swaile, who was awesome as always) I did get to pass Jonathan Frakes, Adam West and Malcolm McDowell during my wanderings, and they all seemed rather friendly so I'm looking forward to getting to meet them.
Actually, for the most part today was spent getting acquainted with the set up, and attending a few seminars about prop making and the like. It was pretty tame, but still a total sensory overload. I can't wait to see how crazy things are tomorrow!
