lol I use the term "artistic" very loosely...

WELL I was really restless and had been seeing these Dragon Age memes on deviantart, but had avoided them because I have no art skills. And then I saw people using screencaps and the like so I figured "eh, why not?" and did them up. And I'll post them here even though they won't make any sense to someone who hasn't played the game. xD

these be thumbnails.
Got a giftcard for the movies~

Yeah, there is absolutely no chance of me getting out to the movies anytime soon aside from tomorrow or Monday during the day, but I have a giftcard that'll cover ticket cost to the local theater.
SO, do I want to hike my ass to the theater to go see, on my own,:

- The Princess and the Frog
- Sherlock Holmes
- It's Complicated
OR
- Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 (THE THINGS I DO FOR YOU, GUBLER)

Or should I just not go see anything until I know for certain that I have a huge chunk of time ahead of me? Even though I don't know when that will be. >.

My brother is TWENTY ONE YEARS OLD and yet whenever he and his friends get together they turn into friggin twelve year olds, I swear. Like just right now? They lit a firecracker IN THE HOUSE AND UNDER MY COMPUTER CHAIR while I was listening to music and didn't hear them come into the room, so it went off and scared the shit out of me. And they're giggling like total idiots over it and cannot understand why I want to STRANGLE them right now. Ugh. I'm like three seconds away from kicking his stupid friend out. Seriously, anytime he comes over he acts like a complete moron.
*tugs at hair*

lawl eye are sykick!

The other night I had the most random dream ever where I was kidnapped by The Joker and Harley Quinn. Not Heath Ledger's Joker, but the kinda based around Mark Hamill's Joker. And they kept bringing me around for no reason whatsoever to all their little hideouts, including old theme parks that were dilapidated and into a hotel room and such where I witnessed them plan out all their crimes, and since they hadn't tied me up and I just stood there and didn't try to stop them I ended up getting a psychological mindwhammy every time one of their plans went off without a hitch, cuz The Joker would tell me that if I were really opposed to what they were doing I could have stopped them, since they hadn't prevented me from such (aside from, y'know, kidnapping me and waving guns around and being batshit crazy). I would get things like "So in a way...this is mostly your fault, isn't it?"
And in my dream I actually started to believe it! So when one nosy hotel worker started poking around I smashed him over the head with a phone. O.o And then The Joker just laughed and laughed and told me that I was really becoming "one of the family" now. So yay. I don't remember what else happened aside from Harley and me needing to evacuate a building really fast so we were running along windowsills way high up (SCARY WTF), but that's not the important part!

The important part is that I woke up all super disturbed at my dream!Stockholm Syndrome, and then I come online yesterday and discover that the teaser trailer for Arkham Asylum 2 has been released and it features...Joker and Harley! And that's it! And I hadn't even known that they'd started working on a sequel to the first game yet!
So now I'm totally convinced that my crack!dream was just my Totally Awesome Psychic Powers alerting me to the new game. Cuz that makes complete sense.

This post has been brought to you by the letters I D C.

huh...

This is going to sound so odd, but it's sort of been bugging me for a week or so now and I need to get it out there.

Well, okay "bugging" isn't the right word for it because I'm not upset or anything, but it's nibbling at my brain whole bunches so it's the only thing I can think of to say.

So, my dad has been with Marlene for almost four years now and they love each other madly and my brother and I love her too because she's a wonderful person and she makes Dad so happy and she's one of those people who can be motherly without trying to "mom" you, if that makes sense. So I alternate between calling her my "dad's girlfriend" and "my stepmum" since they aren't married yadda yadda.

Well, Marly has two adult children who are both older than me, and while I like them just fine I don't think of them as my step siblings at all, though if I need to reference them I'll say that just to make it simpler. And just the other day Marly's son and his fiance had their first child together. Which is fantastic!! And she's a beautiful baby!! And my dad is overjoyed because it's his first grandchild born!!

...And that's where I get a little "lol wut?"

Cuz, I KNOW that it's silly that it'd make me uncomfortable and I KNOW that it's great that he gets to be so involved in Marly's family's life, but I can't help but feel a bit awkward when I think that his first grandkid isn't the child of either of his own children, especially when neither I nor my brother will even get to be an aunt or uncle to the baby.

Is that totally selfish and weird?? Cuz I feel like it is...

fanfic: Surprise!

Title: Surprise!
Author: irvys_sefie
Summary: She had wanted to see it ever since Leliana had told her about it...
Word Count: 1, 988
Characters: DalishFemalePC, ...all the other party members XD
Pairing: Zevran/PC (but it's hardly the main focus)
Comments: It started as tiny drabble for roadtriphome because she had been feeling a bit blue and had been decorating her Christmas tree soooo...that's what's going on here! It grew into a full sized fic though because that's how I do it. This isn't meant to be anything serious, but just some fluffy team-working-side-by-side stuffs, with an added dash of Zev/DalishFemPC and Big Brother Alistair for kicks.
After all, I just took a whole bunch of liberties with Orlais and stuff just for the sake of making this fluff fic. So it's maybe kinda AU?
Slight Spoilers for the Dalish Elf storyline.

“In Antiva City it never snows,” he comments idly as he adjusts the decoration in front of him. “It rains often, but it is too warm for snow. I was often sent away to places that did snow, however, but I never quite got used to it. Fortunately, while away I often found myself warm and under the covers of someone’s bed so I could forget about snow altogether anyway.”

“In Ferelden it snows all the time this time of year,” Alistair retorts, unable to keep himself from scowling in Zevran’s direction as he wraps the garland around the lower branch. Why did the elf always feel the need to bring up his exploits whenever the opportunity reared its head? It made the former would-be templar uncomfortable, to say the least.

“So I’d noticed.”

“Well you won’t be sharing any beds with anyone out here, so you can just get used to the snow.”

“Ah, but Alistair, you have no guarantee of that!” Zevran points out cheerfully, stepping back to admire the tree with a satisfied nod of his head. This had been a very quaint idea indeed! And to think, he had initially teased Leliana for her suggestion. “I could very well crawl into bed with the nearest warm body as soon as it starts to swirl in the sky! I have often found that there is generally at least one accommodating soul that doesn’t mind a good nuzzling for the sake of conserving body heat.”

Speaking of body heat, Alistair feels his neck grow warm when he glances back at Zevran in disgusted disbelief. He doesn’t like to imagine Zevran doing…doing that. Especially with her. It was an irrational flare of overprotective irritation, he knows, but it’s just as he’d always imagined he’d feel if he had a sister and some cad was trying to worm his way into her bed. Or, well, it’s how he’d always imagined he would feel if he’d had a sister who was everything like his fellow Grey Warden and absolutely nothing like the real sister Goldanna. He knows that they’ve been…intimate. But he doesn’t like being reminded of it, and so he just grits his teeth and finishes up so that he doesn’t feel the need to strangle the elf with the garland.

“Oh! It looks so lovely! Well done, both of you!”

Leliana’s voice is a welcome interruption, and the two men turn to face her. She has her hands clasped together, eyes sparkling as she gazes appreciatively at the result of their creative efforts. “I’m sure she’ll love it! It’s just missing one more thing. Now where is…Oh, there you are!”

“Why do I need to put this up at the top?” Sten asks as he all but stomps into the clearing from out of no where. He frowns at the glittering item in his hand. As he takes a step forward, Zevran cannot help but be amused at how the qunari warrior is at eye level with the top of the tree. “What purpose does it serve?”

“It’s just the finishing touch, Sten,” Leliana explains patiently. “It’s…tradition!”

“But why?”

“Because!”

“That is far from an acceptable answer,” he states, but he sighs and places the star atop the tree all the same. “But, very well.”

“You know what I love?” Oghren’s slurred words earn him the attentions of everyone in the area, including Shale, who, up until now, had been standing far enough away from the tree that she felt safe from any birds who might have once lived in there and had decided to reclaim their former home.

“How you’re drunk already despite the fact that you only just gained access to that…nog?” Morrigan suggests. She is sitting on a log nearby the tree, having refused to actually take part in any stage of the decorating, but deigning to sit close by the lot of them so that it could very well be considered helping, in her own way. She had also agreed not pester Alistair while he worked, which truly was helpful, when you thought about it.

“Yes! No! No that’s not what I was going to say, but yes!” Oghren smiles favourably into the mug in his hand. “I love…how none of us have any sodding idea just what this whole thing is about, but we went and did it anyway!”

“The smelly dwarf has a point,” Shale pipes up. “None of this is conductive toward stopping the Blight.”

“Oh, don’t think like that!” Leliana pleads. “Think of it as a gift we’re all working on together for our friend! It’s fun!”

“Indeed,” Morrigan agrees. Or, at least, pretends to agree. “I’m quite certain that if any darkspawn decide to attack us tonight that they will be halted in their tracks, touched by the efforts of our collaboration. Perhaps we can recruit them for a carol or two before we commence slaughtering one another as well! ’Tis all in the name of friendship, as I’ve been told!”

“She’d told me that she’d like to see it!” Leliana clarifies. “I was telling her about holidays in Orlais and she told me that she had seen many, many trees in her lifetime but none done up like those during this time of year in Montsimmard!”

“Well there is plenty in this world that I would like to see too,” the raven haired spellcaster points out. “And yet we are not all clambering to do as I wish-”

“He was her friend, Morrigan!” Alistair points out, cutting the witch off mid-sentence. Silence falls over the group for a few moments, save for a belch that Oghren tries his best to hide. None of them want to dwell on their reason for putting this display on, however, so the subject is quickly dropped. No one wants to remember the look on her face when she was forced to slay that poor tainted creature…

“And the nog that our unwashed dwarf is guzzling?” Morrigan prompts. “What was the point of securing that?”

“You try telling him ‘no’ after he hears about drinks like that, my dear Morrigan,” Zevran offers.

“You try telling him that he ought to share!” Alistair pipes up miserably. He had really wanted to try some. Even just a taste. He’s just about to add to the complaint when he hears the bark of the mabari in the not-so-distant-distance.

“They’re coming!” Sten announces.

“Shall we all hide?” Shale inquires sarcastically. “Do you think if I stand still enough it will confuse me for a statue again?”

“Shh! Everyone! Quiet!” Leliana hushes them as they all, even Morrigan, stand up and remain perfectly still, listening to the approaching group.

The hound is the first to appear, bounding triumphantly into the clearing and stopping short at the base of the tree. He sniffs at it, but after hazarding a glance at Alistair, who only offers him a warning glare, the wardog decides that marking this one isn’t the best of ideas at the moment.

“Wynne…is the blindfold really necessary?” the hesitant voice of the Dalish Warden is heard mere moments before the two remaining members of their crew are actually seen. The elf is holding onto the elderly mage’s arm, though it is obvious that she able to navigate the footpath without the aid.

“Humor us, dear,” Wynne replies affectionately, guiding her the rest of the way until she’s standing in the clearing, facing the tree. “Are you ready?”

“I don’t know,” the warden replies. “I’m worried. You said ‘us’. That means that you’re all plotting against me.”

Morrigan snorts. The elf is beginning to sound like Alistair.

Wynne merely chuckles. “Don’t be. Now, one…two…”

The mage lifts the blindfold off of the elf’s head, stepping back to smile warmly at the product of their work just as the Dalish girl’s breath is caught in her throat at the sight.

“What…what is…” she gasps.

“Surprise!” Leliana squeaks. Behind the redheaded bard, Alistair waves with a grin on his face, Oghren chortles and raises his mug and Zevran…Zevran merely tilts his head to the side, regarding the Warden with an indecipherable smirk on his face.

And Sten stares but does not cross his arms over his chest. That means a great deal, if you were to ask him.

The Warden can scarcely believe her eyes. By the firelight, the tree before her literally sparkles. It is adorned with trinkets and baubles and topped with a silver ornament, crafted to resemble a star in the night sky. It is just as she had pictured it when Leliana spoke of the dressed up trees in Orlais! But why had they all…

“You all did this…?”

“For you,” Leliana assures her, eyes wide with enthusiasm.

Against all her better judgement, tears begin to well up in the elf’s eyes. She cannot believe what is before her. They had all taken the time to…to do this…for her. It was impossible to imagine, and yet the proof was right before her.

“I…don’t know…what to say,” she confesses. When was the last time she had ever been rendered so speechless? When had she last felt so touched? It seemed impossible to think back to a time where she had ever felt such joy and, yes, such love. She hadn’t been able to feel much of anything since she had last seen Tamlen though…so this was...

It was precious.

“Thank you!” she whispers breathlessly, taking her first step forward. “Thank you all so much!!”

“It is leaking from its eyes,” Shale observes, sounding disgusted enough that it actually makes the elf laugh. Oh, how she had needed to laugh!

And, as she laughs, Wynne joins in. Then Leliana. Then Alistair and Oghren and soon until the lot of them are abuzz with chuckles or conversation. Even Sten comments on how he is relieved to see her smile. And then he tells her how pointless it is to put a fake star atop a tree. Strange Orlesian customs.

“We didn’t have time to get presents yet, but that can come later!” Alistair informs her eagerly. “And you don’t need to get me anything either! I can get my own things for once! ‘Why, here you go Alistair! A present!’ ‘Oh thank you Alistair! Cheese! My favourite!’ See how easy that is?”

She is enveloped in such talk, finding herself sharing a mug of nog with Oghren and even attempting to join in a carol with Leliana. Morrigan tells her that her gift to her is her presence, though the smile that she gives her is as warm as the campfire itself. Eventually though, the Warden finds herself being tugged aside by Zevran, who catches her arm and pulls her along until they have rounded the decorated tree. Once alone, he produces a tiny bunch of leaves and white berries.

“Leliana tells me that if you hang this plant up and two lovers are caught underneath it then they need to kiss!” he tells her, voice raising in such a way that it is obvious that he finds the tradition amusing. “How scandalous, no? That is why I neglected to put it up. I wouldn’t want such an influential thing to fall into the wrong hands!”

“Do you believe in that tradition?” she asks him, unable to keep from smiling.

“I believe in any plant that tells me that I should kiss you,” he replies, grinning roguishly. “But…I don’t suppose I need to rely on it to take full advantage of our current seclusion, my Warden.”

“Thank you, Zevran.”

“It was Leliana’s idea,” he shrugs. “But I’m happy to reap the reward! And I…I am glad to see you smile again.”

Before she can say anything else, he tosses the plant over his shoulder and pulls her to him, speaking only in a husky whisper for a moment before he presses his lips to hers: “Have I ever told you how it doesn’t snow in Antiva City?”

GRRRRRR...

Sooooo out-of-fucking-NOWHERE last night my blackberry just...lost all mobile connection. If I try to reset it it will connect for a few seconds and then go and disconnect again. So I call Telus from my house phone (cuz I can't even call out or answer the phone either as it goes straight to voicemail) to go "Umm...wtf you guys?" and WHAT do they tell me?

"Oh. Yeah sounds like you need a new phone. Something's busted in yours. Sorry. Oh but you can get a replacement for for $249 because you're no longer under warranty!! :D :D :D"

So it's either do that, or have no phone at all and still pay the rest of my contract. So I'm getting a new phone. That is red. Because I was angry.

Seriously, I'm so mad that it just...broke like that. I'm totally going to another service provider next year when my contract is up because this is ridiculoooous.

brb stopping the Blight

SO what have I been up to for the past two weeks? Nothing much. Just journeying across the far off, long ago distant land of Fereldan, assembling a party of mages and dwarves and elves and humans to combat the onslaught of an army of darkspawn (kinda like orcs from LotR but more plentiful and more capable of blasting you with magic from like a football field length away, the bastards). But, well, them's the breaks when it comes to being a Grey Warden. What exactly IS a Grey Warden, might you ask? Well, you can get a pretty good idea by watching these videos here:

<lj-embed id="11" />

Annnnd
<lj-embed id="12" />
(warning: there be blood and gore. And sex in the last one xD)

Honestly, I am so completely in love with this game and the fandom that it has produced that it totally doesn't feel as if it has ONLY been out for two weeks. Almost three. I've never been so immersed into a game world like I have with this one and I can't recall a time where I ever cared so deeply for a game's cast of characters before. The gameplay itself is spectacular, but, as most people could probably figure out just from me being ME, well, I'm far more invested in the story and the cast. I don't give a hoot about graphics (even though this game is really pretty) so long as the game can tug at my heartstrings.

And this one? It pulls them so hard that they snap. I've cried I don't even know how many times because of how invested I am in these characters and when something happens to them then I react to it as a friend would. Because this game doesn't just let you improve or wreck relationships with the other characters, it lets you shape your interactions with them just as you'd like. Are you playing a human-hating elf? Then you can tell those bastard vendors who call you knife ears where to stick it. Is someone giving you a hard time about giving you a key to some place? You can sweet talk him out of it. You can bully him, if you prefer that approach! Orrr you can just kill him and take it. Some of your travel companions will even approve of your no-bullshit approach and like you better! And some will think you're a huge dick and like you less.
And those decisions that you made back at the beginning? Long ago? So long ago that you can't even remember them because you're so busy with other Important Stuff? Well, they come back to either haunt or help you later on when you least suspect it!

Oh, and you know how it's always in your best interest to help out That Guy There who wants someone to find his missing Son/Daughter/Brother/Mother/Cat/Teddy bear in an RPG? You'll always have time to go off on all these side quests and gain all these cool items and everyone will be happy, right? Yeah, try telling that to your party members who think that such an altruistic approach to your journey is a huge effing waste of time. They'll point out how, ooh! maybe you can rescue a kitty from a tree next! that will certainly hold off the army of flesh eating bad guys, won't it?! And...well, they're right. And if they disagree with you enough then they'll leave and not put up with your happy go lucky BS. Yeah that's right. They'll leave. Alternately, if you go around being a selfish jerkface then your nicer party members won't put up with you either. There's a balance you need to maintain between your approach to the game, and an important part of that is keeping your companions happy.

You can give them gifts and support them if you want, and then they'll trust your judgment, but it's hard to keep EVERYONE happy when EVERYONE wants different things. At least you can trust your love interest to stand by you! Cuz, yep, you can initiate romances with certain party members in the game. And this isn't just a case of "that guy there is your love interest if you play as a girl and that one's the love interest as you play the male version" stuff either. You've got your choice from a handful, and not all of them are heterosexual unions either. Regardless of whether you proceed with a genuine love storyline or you just want them for the sex (there are some characters that are totally okay with that! XD) that aspect of the story is totally yours to play around with! (well...mostly. Carry on too many romances and you'll be hearing about it from the other lovers. And probably the rest of your party members too, you slut :P)

But what I need to gush about now, more than anything, is the "Origins" part of the title. Your character's origin shapes their, and your, entire outlook on the game. Ultimately you'll reach the same point in the storyline regardless of what you start off as, obviously, but your journey there really DOES shape you, and, as I'd mentioned before, decisions that you make that seem like the best course of action in the beginning can severely bite you in the ass later on. Sooo I'll link here the different origin "trailers" for people to see. I always thought that it'd be easy to just pick an origin, pick a class (warrior, mage, rogue), pick my gender and then play the game normally regardless of where I started off, but boy oh boy was I wrong. I'll do specific character posts to babble my love for the cast later, but for now, just appreciate the sheer epic of the different origins and their first steps into this world:

Human Noble

<lj-embed id="13" />

City Elf
<lj-embed id="14" />

Dalish Elf
<lj-embed id="15" />

Dwarf Commoner
<lj-embed id="16" />

Dwarf Noble
<lj-embed id="17" />

Mage
<lj-embed id="18" />
